SCHOOLS & PROGRAMS: PODIATRY

Podiatry

By many measures, Temple University School of Podiatric Medicine stands out as one of the finest institutions of its kind in the nation—and it continues to grow in excellence. The school educates highly qualified, ethical and caring podiatric physicians and advances the profession of podiatric medicine through innovative research, quality patient care and meaningful community service.

In recent years, the school has made progress in all these areas, attracting ever more qualified students, enhancing the educational experiences it provides, expanding the scope of research it conducts, and reaching a wider patient population through its Foot and Ankle Institute, the largest clinical facility in the world focusing on conditions of the lower extremity. With the support of its alumni and friends, the school plans to build on its recent achievements, fulfilling more successfully than ever its mission of excellence as a center of podiatric medicine.

OUR PLAN FOR PROGRESS

Temple University School of Podiatric Medicine looks to the future committed to extending the record of progress that has recently yielded so many positive developments. In the past few years, support from the University and from our alumni and friends has fueled investment in our faculty, students, facilities, and programs.

Our donors have helped the school create a faculty fellowship in dermatology, a library fund, a new computer center, and the Center for Advanced Wound Healing. They have also enabled us to greatly expand the scholarship aid we offer, increasing our endowment for scholarships by twenty-five percent. Scholarships represent a critical priority, as they are both a key advantage in recruiting outstanding applicants and vitally important if we are to alleviate the burden of debt our students face at graduation, which now averages more than $140,000.

We must also continue our investment in our facilities and in our faculty. With recent renovations, we have made important improvements to several teaching and clinical spaces, but the work of keeping technology and equipment up-to-date must remain a constant focus. Similarly, we are fortunate to count truly outstanding scientists, clinicians, and educators as members of our faculty, but must recognize that recruiting and retaining individuals of this caliber is a competitive and resource-intensive undertaking, as we vie against other well-funded institutions.

Finally, we see the potential to strengthen our community outreach efforts, serving more patients—particularly diabetics and those at risk of complications from the disease—and solidifying funding for our Teaching Amputation Prevention program.
